This was a short book but took a couple weeks to get through。 The language was older and meandering。 Some very interesting and controversial religious views considering the author。 A review of many different cultures and how they celebrate Halloween。 Told from a child’s perspective with lots of magical travel and extraordinary escapades。 Will the boys save their friend Pipkin? Väga paslik lugemine volbriööl。 Tegemist küll Halloweeniga, kuid need päevad poolenisti samas pajas。Raamat räägib sõpradest ning õpetab neile Halloweeni tagamaid viies nad rännakule läbi aja ja maa, et päästa oma sõber surmast ning ühtlasi rääkida, kuidas Halloween oma alge sai ja mida see päev algselt tähendas。Tervelt üks ⭐️ lisandus illustratsioonidele。 See loost saaks suurepärase joonisfilmi! Eh, vaatasin, 1993 ongi tehtud。 Nüüd tuleb see vaid üles otsida。。

I loved this story and may have to buy it for my Halloween collection。
Kyle,
I read this It was really great the only reason I marked it down was because my skill as a reader isn't high enough for this yet。 Ray likes to paint the picture with words which is great but for my small brain was too much so ill definitely reread this later and probably rate it higher when I'm more skilled with more detailed writings。 I read this It was really great the only reason I marked it down was because my skill as a reader isn't high enough for this yet。 Ray likes to paint the picture with words which is great but for my small brain was too much so ill definitely reread this later and probably rate it higher when I'm more skilled with more detailed writings。 。。。more

Feels like something written for children and could sometimes feel like a lesson。 I imagine it as a script for a children’s Halloween special more than anything else
Karla Jay Ruano,

5/5: This is a special one, as it’s the first book I’m entering into my Goodreads list that I read to my daughter Hattie (we’ve read tons of books, just not ones I would… ahem… populate my list with cough R。L。 Stine cough)。 The Halloween Tree was one of my favorite books as a tween… I remember devouring it in 6th or 7th grade, and I’m not sure if I’ve read it since, though the memory of the book outweighs most others from that period。 I wasn’t sure if Hattie was ready for it, and while I’m not s 5/5: This is a special one, as it’s the first book I’m entering into my Goodreads list that I read to my daughter Hattie (we’ve read tons of books, just not ones I would… ahem… populate my list with cough R。L。 Stine cough)。 The Halloween Tree was one of my favorite books as a tween… I remember devouring it in 6th or 7th grade, and I’m not sure if I’ve read it since, though the memory of the book outweighs most others from that period。 I wasn’t sure if Hattie was ready for it, and while I’m not sure if the metaphors all translated completely (she’s 7), she was along the journey to save poor Pipkin’s pumpkin soul。 The story follows a band of trick-or-treaters as they travel through time and space to save their dear friend Pip, short for Pipkin, who can run faster, leap farther, and climb higher than any other kid in this small mid-Western town… a town surrounded by wilderness that wasn’t so wild that you couldn’t see the town, but not so much town that you couldn’t see and smell and touch the wilderness。 I’m paraphrasing, but you know how Bradbury writes。 And this book was *all* sights, sounds, smells, and feels。 There is very little narrative, with most of the prose devoted to metaphor… metaphors that consume the book, and in any other writer’s hands it probably wouldn’t work。 But with Bradbury at the helm, we have a giddy fever dream of pumpkin spice, sugar skulls, and broomsticks。 My daughter dug it, and so did I。 Long live the Halloween Tree。 。。。more
Erin,
I know this is supposed to be a fun "remember the reason for the season" type of kids book, but also。。。 I really hated it。 Mostly because it drastically misrepresents the "history" it is sharing。 These flashbacks into "Halloween history" are really just a writer's twisted fantasy based on what someone heard or thought they heard about a particular time period--something that, as someone who has studied both anthropology and archaeology, I take a profound issue with。 It's just a kids' story。 I ge I know this is supposed to be a fun "remember the reason for the season" type of kids book, but also。。。 I really hated it。 Mostly because it drastically misrepresents the "history" it is sharing。 These flashbacks into "Halloween history" are really just a writer's twisted fantasy based on what someone heard or thought they heard about a particular time period--something that, as someone who has studied both anthropology and archaeology, I take a profound issue with。 It's just a kids' story。 I get that, but it purports to be so much more。Yeah, I hated it。 。。。more

I listened to this book, and the version was a radio production with sound effects, orchestra etc。 It was fun to listen to, but I'm not sure how it would compare with reading the actual book。 The book is really written for young readers, but is still fun for older readers who like to get a taste of nostalgia for the time when Halloween was the most exciting time of the year。 The book explores how other cultures dealt with death through celebrations or yearly events similar to Halloween。 It also I listened to this book, and the version was a radio production with sound effects, orchestra etc。 It was fun to listen to, but I'm not sure how it would compare with reading the actual book。 The book is really written for young readers, but is still fun for older readers who like to get a taste of nostalgia for the time when Halloween was the most exciting time of the year。 The book explores how other cultures dealt with death through celebrations or yearly events similar to Halloween。 It also explores what friends are willing to sacrifice to save one of their friends。 This is kind of like a Christmas Carol for Halloween except rather than visiting events of families past the boys are visiting historical events of other cultures。 It's fun to listen to and very short, so not much time spent either way。 。。。more

Melissa,
I loved this because Ray Bradbury captures young boys curiosity so well。 They care but often times you give them a puzzle or a mystery and they’re all in it。 The learning of Halloween and the different cultures that celebrate it was very interesting and it all tied in to Pipkin because he was sick and he needed help。 It was a journey of the boys trying to find pipkin and realizing the meaning of this journey: it’s a gorgeous story
